Endometriosis is a condition where the inner lining of the uterus is found outside of the uterus.  This tissue acts the same way the tissue inside the uterus acts and degrades each month with hormonal signaling.  Often times endometriosis is very painful with severe cramping, pain with intercourse, pain can be present throughout the month as well.

The “why” behind endometriosis is not well understood and there are several theories as to why it occurs.  One theory is that there is an immune dysregulation component.

Having endometriosis can absolutely impact your fertility journey.  If an immune dysregulation is impacting your body to produce endometriosis, immune dysregulation may impact your fertility journey as well.

Common symptoms of endometriosis include:
  • Pain in abdomen, pelvis, low back, rectum, vagina
  • Heavy menses
  • Irregular menses
  • Painful periods
  • Abnormal spotting
  • Bloating
  • Pain during sexual intercourse
  • Constipation
  • Infertility

Ensure you speak with your doctor about your periods to see if this may be affecting you and your fertility journey.  Thankfully, there is a lot that you can do to help stabilize your immune system and working with an experienced doctor is always a great place to start!
